Eve was almost glad when her mobile went and someone from the police team asked if she’d be free for an interview at Elizabeth’s Cottage in half an hour. The feeling fizzled away when she heard it would be DI Palmer who came.

Viv gave her a bolstering pat on the shoulder. ‘Give him hell. Oh, and Eve?’

‘Yes?’

‘Cross Keys tonight. Seven. Food. Wine. We need time to talk.’

‘All right.’ When Viv had that look in her eye there was no point in arguing. Besides, she might have more information on Daisy Irvine by then. Food and chat would help her think.
